University of the Third Age MENDELU
The Institute of Lifelong Learning has been organizing senior education in the form of the University of the Third Age since 2003 when it opened the first year with the educational programme „Man and Nature at the Beginning of the Third Millennium“.
Since then, more than 11,000 people have attended lectures at the University of the Third Age. This number demonstrates the ever-growing interest of older people in spending their time in a meaningful way, learning about new developments in the world of science and at the same time making new friends.
University of the Third Age (U3A) offers a basic three-year and a follow-up two-year study programme, which include lectures on the topics of the key disciplines of all parts of Mendel University in Brno, i.e. the Faculty of AgriSciences, the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology, the Faculty of Business and Economics, the Faculty of Horticulture, the Faculty of Regional Development and International Studies and the Institute of Lifelong Learning. Theoretically oriented lectures are complemented by practical exercises and excursions.
Furthermore students can sign up for one-year courses, such as Garden and Health, Our Garden, Trees, Forest and Landscape, or Man and the World, which explore deeper the topics covered in the
basic study. The offer also includes the popular one-semester courses in foreign languages, flower arranging or photography. Newly offered are also online courses on topics such as Permaculture, Meat Production or Genetics and Health.
