Study of Pedagogy

The 3-semester course is designed for all those who want to obtain the qualification of a secondary school teacher, specifically a teacher of vocational subjects and a teacher of practical education or a teacher of vocational training. The course is accredited by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic as a part of  the system of Further Education of Pedagogical Staff.

The study is intended for those who want to obtain the qualification of a secondary school teacher according to § 9 of Act No. 563/2004 Coll. on Pedagogical Staff, specifically teachers of vocational subjects and teachers of practical education or teachers of vocational training at secondary schools with a focus on teaching agricultural (including forestry, horticulture, environmental, food processing, woodworking), technical (including mechanization, IT), economic (including trade and services, administration, business) and health-related fields (including veterinary).

What you will learn

The graduate will acquire knowledge and skills in the fields of pedagogy, didactics, and psychology, which are essential components of the professional qualification for a teacher of specialized subjects or a teacher of practical teaching and vocational training in a secondary school.

Study content

The study consists of 3 modules:

  • Basics of Pedagogy and Didactics
  • Basics of Psychology for Educators
  • Additional topics and Teaching Practice

These modules are divided into 16 individual subjects.

Course organization

The 3-semester course is organized in a combined / blended form. The total load is 162 hours, with 111 hours of in-person instruction and 51 hours of distance learning. In-person instruction will be organized in blocks in the form of two-day workshops. During the 3rd semester, there will be a practical training and a final exam.

Course dates

The course usually starts twice a year, in February or September of the given year.

Prerequisites for admission to study

  • Completion and submission of the application form
  • Payment of the participation fee or the 1st installment
  • to obtain the qualification of a teacher of vocational subjects: university education obtained from a master’s degree programme in an agricultural, economic, technical or medical field, which corresponds to the nature of the vocational subjects taught, 
  • for the qualification of a teacher of practical education and practical training: at least secondary education with a Maturita exam obtained by completing an educational programme of secondary education in a field of education that corresponds to the nature of the subjects taught

Conditions for Completion

The condition for completing the study is to meet the requirements set by the guarantors of individual courses and to attend at least 75 % in-person classes.

After successful completion of the courses, students complete their studies with a final exam in front of a committee. The exam includes the defence of the final written thesis and the final colloquium.

On the basis of passing the final examination, the graduate will receive a Certificate of Completion of the Lifelong Learning Programme “Study of Pedagogy” according to § 22 par. 1 lit. a) Act No. 563/2004 Coll., on Education Staff and Amendments to Certain Acts, and Section 3 of Decree No. 317/2005 Coll., on Further Education of Education Staff, the Accreditation Commission and the Career System.

The course is taught in Czech.
